| These
fascinating creatures are members of the Camelid family, related to the Dromedary
and Bactrian Camels, as well as the Alpaca, Guanaco and wild Vicuña. Regal,
intelligent and incurably curious, they've been a much loved part of our lives
for over a decade, a constant source of fun and gentle companionship. | |

|
For thousands of years in their native homeland of South America, Llamas provided
their Incan masters with their sole mode of transporting goods. Today,
in the 21st century our transportation is somewhat
more high-powered, in keeping with the rapid pace of modern living. Occasionally
however, one needs to take a break
to pause a moment, and rediscover life's
simple pleasures.
Each of our Llama Eco-Experiences provides the perfect opportunity to do just
that, to soothe the psyche and recapture that inner sense of peace and well-being.

Option 1: Llakeside
Llama Lluncheon |
| |
Just
around the corner from our Wildlife Rescue Centre, Kingbilli's three largest dams
converge, creating the ideal site for our expanding Waterbird Wetlands and slowly-developing
Possum Wood. Here, multi-stage revegetation is taking place to provide prime habitat
for furred and feathered friends alike. |
| | | |
Supporting lush green grass and surrounded by stretches of water enhanced by the
leafy relections of eucalypts, this is where many of our rehabilitated Kangaroos
and Wallabies enjoy their first taste of freedom. Thus it is also the domain of
our main Llama herd, as it is their job to protect these vulnerable wildlife youngsters
from the omnipresent threats of feral predators. And
beneath the corridor of tall eucalypts and shady pines (a favourite with our Cockatoos!),
nestles a secluded picnic table beside which the Llamas come each day to sit,
or take the occasional dip in the cool waters. Within easy walking distance of
your cottage, you may rest and relax under the companiable and protective gaze
of these four-legged friends, whilst they hum their hypnotic lullaby and
you indulge yourselves in a delectable picnic, complete with a bottle of
wine. |

Option 2: Llama
Eco-Trek
- not for the faint-hearted! |
| | | For
the more adventurous Llama connoisseur, the "extreme Llama experience"
can be found in our Llama Eco-Treks. These
take place through 'Blue Gully', Kingbilli's own private
wildlife sanctuary, which covers 60 acres of hill-country,
revegetated to its natural bushland state, the sanctuary is home to nearly 200
species of native birds and animals, living wild and free in a safe and tranquil
habitat. | | |
| A
steep but shaded trail winds 2-3 kilometres through the hillcountry before reaching
a peaceful ridge-top spot with breathtaking views across the Cathedral Valley
to the Great Dividing Range. Along the way, you may encounter Eastern Grey Kangaroos,
Swamp Wallabies, Bare-Nosed Wombats, Koalas, Echidnas
and a wealth of native
birds ducking, diving and singing contentedly in the shrubbery. |
|
|
| |
| If
you wish, your Guide will alert you to footprints, nests and other traces of those
less visible residents, such as Possums, Gliders, Bandicoots, Antechinuses ...
and more! |
| |

| Some
of these animals have been released from Kingbilli's Wildlife
Rescue Centre, whilst many are wild individuals who have chosen Blue
Gully as their home because of its unique safety and habitat quality. At
the top of the hill - whilst your Guide unpacks the saddlebags and the Llamas
settle down with a snack - there's time to photograph the 360 degree views and
perhaps, even a majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle soaring overhead. Then,
after a leisurely meal and a bottle of wine, it's simply a gentle walk downhill
via a secondary route back to civilization. | Georgina

|
Please note, when
we say trek, we mean trek! and you do have to walk alongside
your llamas - they are not ridden! Hence, a sound level of fitness
is definitely required. (Not suitable for very young children).
